Thanks for your feedback. I went back to Windows 8. Of course then it was a mess and explorer. The taskbar wouldn't work and you couldn't alt-tab. However, I was able to hobble through a few things. I reinstalled all Samsung drivers. I think this may have been a waste of time, but not sure. This was about a 4 hour process. I should have just reinstalled the "essential" set of drivers not the entire set because it took 2 hours to download the manual which of course nobody cares about or ever reads.
I uninstalled VMWare Player 7 because it had a virtual keyboard driver that I was worried could be messing stuff up. Then I reinstalled Windows 10 from the Upgrade process inside Windows 8. This time things seemed to work on first boot. I also made sure to not do too much and let Windows Update run on Windows 10 before rebooting because my understanding is that the Windows Update process fixes missing drivers on first boot of Win For example, when I booted first time into Windows 10 my touch pad 2-finger scroll wasn't working.
After about 30 minutes and my first reboot it was working again. So, I have to believe Windows Update fixed it. Also, one of the key things that I did different this time was I did not manually launch etdctrl.
Not sure if this caused the keyboard to not work but it may have. On my 2nd go around I never did anything manual and everything just sort of eventually worked.
Thanks for spending all that time on the problem. I hope Anil Madishetty evaluates what you said and gives a response concerning the issue. I suspect the reload of Windows 10 was the primary fix. I considered it myself but didn't try it because of the warning that I will have to also reload quite a few "apps" already on my machine!
The problem was the VMWare as it uses a keyboard and places a setting in the registry of windows that does not work with Windows 10 for some reason. Thank you Haniwt! That was the right registry key for me, but I didn't have the "vmkbd" entry. I uninstalled VMware Player just to see, then restarted, and nothing changed. DRockney, this did the trick. I also did not have vmkbd but i had two kbdclass. Removing the second entry also worked for me.
I had no duplicates and no "vmkbd" entries, but I also lost my keyboard about four days after upgrading from Win8. So, I tried every combination of one or two of the entries here Tim's Computer Repair video on YouTube said to use only "kbdclass" , but the only thing that happened was that now my touchpad has also stopped working! I had the same thing happen. I did a clean Win 8. When I did the free Win 10 upgrade the keyboard worked fine until about the second Windows update!??
I am still limping along using my mouse to type on the onscreen keyboard. I suspect the Windows 10 upgrade somehow installs a driver that works with the Sony keyboard and then perhaps the updates feature somehow senses the need to change to something else that causes the keyboard to quit? I have tried a lot of troubleshooting with no luck, especially because Sony is bailing out of the laptop business and is only providing drivers for it's more recent laptops.
